Measuring success can be done in many ways. You can believe that the more money you earn is a sign of success. You can also measure it with how happy you are. You may even believe it can be measured by the size of the things you own.
It can even be a personal measure that only you can gauge… So…how do you measure success?
First, let’s talk about how you can become successful…in my humble opinion.
How Do You Become Successful?
Are there secrets to becoming successful?
The famous pastor and author Norman Vincent Peale is known for so many inspirational quotes on positive thinking. I dug up some and here is one that stands out to me,
“People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success”.
It’s amazing how much truth there is in this. I find that it is even true in my own life. But, you know there’s a funny thing about success. Did you know it can be measured in what you or I am currently doing?
You may not realize it, or may not think that what you are doing now is successful. You have to think that whatever it is you are doing now can be measured as a success if it was preconceived by you before you started doing it.
There is hope. If you are not happy where you are in life, it can be changed.
However, being a success financially, will not change how happy you are in your current job or situation. Not now or anywhere. See my post on this. One main reason…if you are not happy you cannot really measure that as a success then. Can you?
Changing how you feel about your situation in life can be done by changing what you believe to be about yourself. Hmm, sound familiar… Norman Vincent Peale’s quote from above has come full circle.
Believe in Yourself First…
Do you believe in yourself?
Seriously, how do you really feel about yourself…do you constantly have self-doubt?
Do you always call yourself names in your mind? Or talk to yourself in a negative way?
The first thing you need to do is stop doing that. I am attempting something on my own now and today is the first day of a 30-day test.
It involves a notecard – that’s it. I wrote two things on the notecard. My goal on what it would take to measure my success and a scripture message on the back. I will look at this card frequently throughout the day. Front and back.
I will do this for the next 30 days. I will also do one more thing. I will push any negative thoughts that I have for myself or my goal out of my mind…how? By looking at the card again when these thoughts come up.
I am going to focus on the scripture verses first, though. That is the important step to this…it gets you in the right mindset.
The notecard serves as a reminder to me as to the way I want to see myself. After the 30 days are done, I’ll do it again. Either with the same goal (if I haven’t reached it) or a different but bigger one (if I have reached it). It is very important that you must be very specific about your goal. Also, make sure it is measurable with something tangible.
So, even as I use this as a way to help strengthen my belief in myself. There are rare occasions that I do have some self-doubt as well. Everyone does at some point in their lives. So, if you suffer from doubting yourself either a lot or rare occasions like me, then try this. I also recommend reading a post on WA, that has helped me with my 30-day test.
What Other Ways Can Success Be Shown?
I touched on how you and I may be successful in what we are currently doing now, even though we don’t want to or don’t know how to see it.
I’ll bet you’re wondering…what are you talking about?!
Stop and think about it…are you unhappy with the job or your current situation because there isn’t anything you can do about it. That it is not anything you caused…this takes a lot of introspection. You really have to dig deep on this one and look inside yourself and be completely honest in your self-evaluation.
Now, I don’t want you to beat yourself up over this. Remember no negative thoughts about yourself or your goals, just honest critical thinking on your circumstances to evaluate what you can do to change things. One of the biggest reasons is to make sure the same mistakes aren’t made again.
If you find that it truly is other individuals that are causing your issues, then you need to be working on this thing called Affiliate Marketing more than you realize to help you get away from those caustic people out of your life…I hope you don’t mind the shameless plug here.
Or, if you find that you may have caused your own problems then change it.
Well, you either need to learn how to deal with the root cause or learn how to be content and not wish for bigger or better things. I would also use the tools you are given to work on getting out of the situation as well. Again… Affiliate Marketing might have an answer for you (yeah, I know, another shameless plug).
To help understand contentment in the way I am trying to explain it better. It is also, one of my go to’s when things are in front of me to entice me or when I feel the chips are down.
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I may do all this through Him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:11-13. NIV
Final Thoughts…
So, what are your thoughts on this? I know it almost seems that I am going in circles here, by starting to say what it takes to be a success and then finishing with contentment. My reasons, they sort of go hand in hand. You can be a success in life, but there isn’t anything wrong with contentment either.
Striving for success to me is just working toward goals, but the reason I talk about contentment is that regardless of where you are or where you want to be. Be content with who you are, don’t be down on yourself and if there is a better way. Go for it, so you can work toward your goals and become the success you want to be.

Yes, measuring success differs from people but to me I will say measuring success is about the number of lives you have been a blessing to either morally, as a mentor, spiritually, and academically of the number of lives you have touched. This guide will be very useful for me. Success has to do with inner peace, Your definition for success might be different from others.
